Use messages and control privacy

Keep direct conversations, event chat, and Eventus updates in one place.

  1. Find your conversations

Open Messages from the header or Home. The list sorts by latest message activity and initially opens the latest accessible conversation beside it. Your selection stays in the URL as new messages arrive. On a phone, use Back to chats. Group and event chat also appear in Overview; event Overview starts with the composer and five newest messages, with Show more for older posts.

  2. Create a private group chat

Choose New chat → Create private group chat, name it, and select at least two people whose messaging preferences allow contact. The creator can rename the chat and manage members. Transfer ownership before leaving. New or re-added members can only see messages and threads posted since they joined. Removing someone immediately ends access.

  3. Reply and react

Open Reply in thread under a message. All its replies stay in one thread. Like or dislike a message, and add independent emoji reactions with the smiley picker. Focus, hover over, or tap a count to see who reacted. Reactions do not send alerts or move chats in the list.

  4. Mute a chat or series

Use the bell beside a conversation to mute or unmute indefinitely. Event chats also offer Mute entire series in their menu. This applies to future occurrences and split series; an individual event can explicitly override it or use the series preference. Muting suppresses message alerts and email while preserving unread indicators and messages. It does not silence unrelated event announcements. Unmuting does not resend suppressed alerts. Eventus can also be muted while its service updates remain readable.

  5. Set messaging preferences

Open the account menu → Settings. Choose anyone, friends, or nobody for direct messages. Blocks prevent new direct contact regardless of that preference. Existing readable history is retained.

  6. Read Eventus updates

Eventus sends invitations and service updates into a read-only system conversation. Follow View details to respond at the relevant page. These in-app updates remain available even when personal messages are disabled. Email delivery still follows your email notification preference.

  7. Control your profile

Use the account menu → Profile to set your portrait, description, overall visibility, and which groups, friends, ratings, or history can be displayed. Your portrait becomes the account-menu button.

  8. Control discovery history

Settings includes a saved city, distance preference, and personalization switch. Clear search history removes stored submitted searches; disabling personalization also clears them. Searches expire after 90 days. Device location is used for the current search, not recorded as a continuous trail.

Hiding a personal conversation affects your view, not another participant’s history. Eventus messages remain available. Losing membership or event eligibility can revoke chat access without deleting the historical messages.
